Grant's Light Box

Good photos are an asset when selling on ebay. And good photos are the result of good lighting. (Some people think it's cameras, or maybe software, but it's good lighting.)

So it's about time to make taking good ebay photos simple, and that's what this light box does. It can be lit with a cheap harsh light like this one -- or on a sunny day, it can be parked in direct sunlight. The photo of the wooden egg had its shadows "filled" with reflected light from a piece of white paper. The apple was shot as pictured. For some photos, a piece of poster board will serve as a "cyc."*)

The white "flag cloth" diffuser will be sewn into a "3-sided box with top" and stored in the container beneith the stage when not in use. (The bin will also contain other photographic equipment, hopefully keeping it all in one location.)

*"An infinity cyc (found particularly in television and in film stills studios) is a cyc which curves smoothly at the bottom to meet the studio floor, so that with careful lighting and the corner-less joint, the illusion that the studio floor stretches on to infinity can be achieved. Cycloramas or "cycs" also refer to photography curving backdrops which are white to create no background, . . ."

Above are two "hand held" photos taken in the new light box. A piece of white card stock was held a few inches to the left of one toy train car for one exposure. There was no card present for the other. See the difference?
