Instrument Panel

The (Teleflex) steering gear and Morse controller have been completely rebuilt. The fuel gauge will remain located on the aft deck. (It's a long story.) The funky-looking (and UG-LY) depth meter will be removed. An engine-hour meter will be added. All instruments in this panel will be new (by Faria.) The resulting meter layout (left to right) will be:
  • Engine coolant temperature
  • Oil pressure
  • Tachometer
  • Volt meter (replacing ammeter)
  • Engine hour meter (recording "swith-on", not hours run)
The original panel area is about one full inch in thickness, making it difficult to mount the new gauges -- especially since I did not want to ruin their mounting clamps for future rebuilding of the entire panel. So I've designed and had Haslag Steel "water-jet" a 10 gauge steel panel to hold the new instruments. That's it pictured, primed; it will be painted to match gel coat. Haslag did a beautiful job. Future plans include making a larger SS panel behind the instruments, steering gear and switches. Fuses will be replaced with circuit breakers hidden from view. Also hidden from view will be an accessory plug (cigar lighter) and its breaker.
For now, switch layout (left to right) will remain as follows:
  • Horn button
  • Anchor/Nav lights (two position)
  • Instrument lights
  • Ignition/starter
  • Blower
  • Bilge pump
